Travel Documents

  • Yellow vaccination booklet with proof of all standard vaccinations, as well as a yellow fever vaccination
  • Copies of important documents, preferably stored separately from the originals
  • Flight tickets or confirmations
  • Travel documents
  • Cash in Euros or US Dollars (it’s best to exchange locally)
  • Credit card with free international withdrawal option
  • Emergency contact details for your travel health insurance and your bank
Luggage
  • Flexible travel bag or large backpack, no hard-shell suitcase, as vehicles have limited luggage capacity. Limit your packing to around 15 kg
  • Outdoor daypack for valuables and cameras
  • Camera with good zoom for wildlife photos, including enough memory cards, batteries, charger and tripod
  • Small flashlight or headlamp
  • Small binoculars
  • Power adapter Type G
  • Power bank
  • Charging cables for your phone
Clothing

Due to varying climate conditions in different regions, clothing in natural colors, preferably in layers (onion principle), is recommended. Remember that you can wash your clothes locally.

  • Sturdy, comfortable, waterproof hiking boots
  • Flip-flops or trekking sandals
  • Underwear and socks
  • T-shirts
  • 2-3 long safari shirts with UV and mosquito protection
  • 2-3 convertible safari pants with mosquito protection
  • Fleece or softshell jacket
  • Lightweight rain jacket for the rainforest
  • Sunglasses and a head covering
  • For gorilla trekking: gaiters to protect against ants, long socks, garden gloves
Travel Pharmacy
  • Mosquito repellent with DEET
  • Malaria prophylaxis (consult your doctor)
  • Pain relievers
  • Medication for gastrointestinal issues
  • Band-aids and blister plasters
  • Personal medications (e.g., antihistamines for allergies, heart/circulatory medications, etc.)
